Matthias Matthiesen, Senior Manager, Privacy & Public Policy IAB Europe has been invited to Stockholm to present an important new industry solution from IAB Europe to help publishers and their partners achieve legal compliance with the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
In a little over four months, the GDPR will start being enforced by national and EU data protection authorities, and companies will need to comply with its provisions. These include new conditions in relation to the “consent” legal basis, one of the three legal bases that publishers can use to process personal data under EU rules.
To ensure that European publishers and the partners they work with comply with those new conditions when they use consent, IAB Sweden, along with IAB Europe and other European IABs, has developed a technical solution that will help publishers obtain consent and then pass information about that consent to their third-party partners, as well as enabling the partners to communicate accurately across the delivery chain about which users have consented to what.
The solution gives publishers full control to pick and choose which third parties they work with, and to determine what purposes those third parties can process personal data for. It is a decentralised, lightweight, cost-efficient answer to a key challenge in the new legal environment.
